Bravery Act

Rukshana Kausar was popularly known for shooting a Le T terrorist at her residence in Jammu and Kashmir. Kausar’s home was located at Rajouri in Shahdra Sharief, which was 20 miles away from the lines between Indian forces and Pakistani forces. Her place is close to a dense forest where the Lashkar-e-Taiba group is often kept as a hiding place and would demand food and stay in the nearby villages. On September 29th, 2009, three Pakistani militants came to her house for food and a place to stay. They forced Noor Mohammad, Kausar’s father, to offer them food and a place to stay, but her father refused to obey their words. Due to this, the terrorist got angry and attacked his father. Kausar, hiding under her bed, rushed and attacked the man with a sword. As he collapsed, she started firing at him with the AK-47. The other two militants escaped with wounds because they feared Kausar’s rude and violent behavior.

Kausar and her family also faced the revenge attack performed by the terrorists on October 31st, 2009, in which their house was fired several times, but it was a failure as no one was available in the house. Her family was moved to a government quarter with high police security. Following that incident again on November 10th, 2009, the security forces detected a bomb near her house, and later they defused it with the bomb squads.
