Sabbah Haji left the comforts of Bangalore to set up a school in the terror prone area of Kashmir

This article is about a great Indian hero who left the comforts of a cozy job and a city like Bangalore in the year 2008 to set up a public school ( Haji public school) in Breswana, a remote and terror prone village of Kashmir. To reach this place, one has to first embark on a ten hour drive from Jammu to Doda, followed by a 5 hour trek across the mountains.

She started the school from two rooms in her father’s home. Meanwhile, she sought funds through social media sites and also convinced volunteers to teach at the schools without any fees. Her efforts paid off and by mid 2009, Haji public school had its own building and around 200 enrolled students and two branches in Shadiwan and Parsholla.

It is amazing that the drop out rate since inception has been minimal thereby bringing a breeze of hope in the valley which is otherwise ravaged by the terrorists. the valley owes to this brave heart for being the catalyst for an incredible transformation.

She is of the conviction that “normal life” and peace will return to the valley and hopes that economy of the state would improve with revival of industries and more jobs.

Our salute to this commerce graduate from Bishop Cotton, Bangalore who found her purpose in life and eschewed a routine but comfortable life. She gets her thrill by watching innocent minds getting nourished with knowledge and faces getting lit up with comprehension.
